Little Granny had quite a sense of humor. She told all of us she was a full blood Cherokee Indian. She had black hair almost to her waist, and she looked like an Indian. She was born in the Indian Territory; maybe she thought she was an Indian. The stories grew over the years until relatives said Little Granny’s mother walked the Trail of Tears. Well, Granny was born in 1891. The Trail of Tears was 50 years before her birth. Her mom must have been a very old mother.
After Daddy moved back to Oklahoma, I met Little Granny’s brother Charlie. He had beautiful blue eyes. I have taken a couple of classes on genetics. Unless she was adopted, she was not a full blood Indian. Then, when I had my DNA analyzed, it was confirmed. I do not have a drop of Indian blood. Little Granny was having fun with us.
